Welcome to the First Grade webpage!

The following suggestions and information are to help you make your child’s year a successful and positive experience:

Bedtime
An early bedtime (8:00 p.m.) is advised. A relaxing activity, like reading the book your child chose from the bedtime story tub, is recommended.

Breakfast
A good breakfast will help your child have a good morning.

Snack
Please send one snack for your child only — each day. Snacks might include graham crackers, individual cheese/cracker packs, peanut butter w/crackers, a sealed bag of baby carrots, granola bars, etc.
· Please do not send candy or chips.
· Please do not send drinks so that we may avoid spills. The children may drink from the drinking fountain.

Clothing
Our building does not have air-conditioning. Please dress your child according to the weather.

Reading Material
Your child is bringing home a reading book bag Monday through Thursday. Please make sure you read daily with your child and return all reading materials the next day. Most Fridays, a 3-ring I Can Read folder will be sent home. This folder needs to be returned each Monday. This binder will have a collection of poems and songs. The children often have memorized this material. Please praise them for their efforts, as this encourages reading with fluency and expression.

Sharing
Each child will have the opportunity to share. Please note the special person calendar for your child’s sharing day. Suggested items to share include pictures, books, something made by the child, anything scientific, or a special event. Please do not send a lot of toys.

Birthdays
For celebrating your child’s birthday, a day will be assigned on the Special Person calendar near their birthday. You may bring a special (store bought) treat for the class. Your child may bring the treat to school, or you may come to help serve at a time that is convenient for the teacher/class.

IMC (Library)
Our library day is on Friday. Please help your child remember to return his/her library book by Thursday.

Music
First Grade music is on Monday and Wednesday. A formal music program will be performed this coming spring.

P.E.
First Grade P.E. is Tuesday and Thursday. Please have your child wear appropriate shoes, such as tennis shoes.
