Summer

By Lily Bogard

Summer is at our fingertips. We can almost just pluck it out of the air. But it's not quite there.

We can't end the school year without the bike rodeo. Can we? NO , absolutely not. Just wait for the rodeo to come. by then we'll start counting down the days if we haven't already.
Hang in there for just a little bit of time. You will soon be free.
If you don't know, the end of school is on June 7th.  about a week or less left.
But, just because the end of school is near, that doesn't mean that you can be rude or act oddly to your teacher. In fact, this would be a great time to be extra, extra good for your teacher because they are working extra hard.
Your teacher is and has worked really, really hard this year. Even though it isn't teacher appreciation week, try to say thanks to them. I'll bet that they would enjoy that.
So, summer is coming up and people are getting excited. Still follow all of the rules , have fun, and don't forget to put on sun screen as the days get sunnier.

QUEENSLAND FLOODS By Rosalie Page

Australia's Queensland was hit with floods in the beginning of the year and has left 200,000 people homeless. It's the worst flooding in 50 years. Officials say the flood zone covers an area bigger than France and Germany combined! The floods were triggered by a tropical cyclone called Tasha. The floods are ruining crops and farming, and the destruction it has caused will cost billions of dollars. Another problem with the flooding is that crocodiles and sea snakes will come into houses. The south of the country is afraid of high temperatures and high winds. It'll take weeks for the floods to drain down.

Wii Music Review By Rosalie Page

Ever had one of those days where you got a favorite song in your head and you want to play it, only you're the one making music? Well, now you can with the video game Wii Music . What's Wii Music , you ask? Wii Music is a game where you get to play as one of your Miis on the Wii and they perform well-know songs on different stages with 66 different instruments. But certain songs sound better with one or two instruments. For example, the song, “Do-Re-Mi”, sounds better with an electric guitar, while the song, “Daydream Believer”, sounds better with a saxophone.

If you want to become a great musician, how about you start off with the basic songs, such as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, or “O, Christmas Tree”. But if those are too simple or boring to you, how about you try the powerful “Legend of Zelda Theme” or the “Super Mario Bros. Overworld Theme”. Performing a song is great, but keeping a great performance as a video with a cover you designed is even better! So, rock out and let the spotlight shine on you, because now you're the superstar!

The Wizard of Oz

by Lily Bogard and Rosalie Page

On Friday, March 11 th , the fourth and fifth graders took a trip away from home and into a world of witches, good and bad, lions, scarecrows and more! Actually, they just went to the Middle School, but they experienced Dorthy's trip to the land of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz was and still is about a little girl named Dorthy. She is bored with life and can't wait to get away from home. But when a twister comes and lifts Dorthy and her house up, up, and into the land of Oz, Dorthy realizes that home is always the best. The story continues as Dorthy goes on an adventure and discovers the secrets of the land of Oz while trying to get back home. On her adventure, Dorthy kills two witches. One on accident and one for the Great Wizard of Oz. On the way to Emerald City, Dorthy meets the Scarecrow, who wants a brain, Tinman, who wants a heart, and a cowardly Lion, who wants some courage.

I'll bet you know the story of The Wizard of Oz pretty well if you've seen the movie, but have you ever heard of the Jitterbugs? It was in the original movie, but was later cut out. The Middle School included it, though.

Here is a list of the main characters and who they were played by.

Character A cast B cast
Dorthy Nisa Anders Maddy Anderton Seim
Cowardly Lion Oakly Chiappisi Katrina Kildea
Tinman Mikey Cannon Chase Fletcher
Scarecrow Theo Faridoni Taylor Barr
Witch Heather MK Chrisita Baldisseri
Good Witch of the North Linda Wang Gwen Bogard

On the last night of the public performances, Mrs.Crocker read the 8 th gradersn thanks and other info. Gwen Bogard said she would like to thank the academy, only if she knew what the academy was. Heather MK said that she was planning to keep acting until her two friends not only had Justin Bieber shirts, but also had Heather shirts. There were also other very funny thanks and acting careers.

Think about all the hard work that went into this play. The people listed above aren't the only cast members. The Munchkins worked very hard as well. Oh, and the director, Mrs.Crocker. She worked almost and probably worked harder than most everyone. Hope you went to The Wizard of Oz and had a great time! If you didn't, too bad. Make sure you all go to next years play!
