Researching the History of a Disease
This part of the assignment can be a bit difficult. We recommend you begin with the book that's available in the library: Encyclopedia of Infectious Diseases - 616.9 Tur in the Reference Section.
Here are a few links that may help as well:
- History of Diseases - contains links to articles about the history and discovery of various disorders
- History of the Health Sciences
- Medicine Through Time - from the British Broadcasting Corporation; navigate through the time periods linked on this page.
Articles and case studies - you may also find good articles and case studies on your research topic in one of our subscription databases. For this assignment, we recommend that you use:
- Health Source: Consumer Edition, and
- Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
Both of these databases are available through the library's Ebsco subscription. (If you're doing research from home, the username is: OSLIS and the password is: high.) When you get to the page where you may select databases, click in the box next to both.
Search tip - when looking for your disease and its "treatment" or "history" or "vaccine", make sure to use the word [and] to join your terms. You will also want to limit your results to "full text."
